Exchange Club of Bellevue Tuesday Breakfast Meeting 7:30 a.m. April 15, 2025 Abby Kimmel & Jenn Harrman Recycle RIGHT! Nashville Waste Services

Date and Time

Tuesday Apr 15, 2025
7:30 AM - 8:30 AM CDT

  • Recycle Right - the 3 Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), how recycling works in Nashville, what can and cannot be recycled, and why not everything can be recycled

Jenn Harrman develops education initiatives, policy, and programs to help Nashvillians

rethink, refuse, reuse, and recycle. As Administrative Services Manager for the

Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County and a public servant of

over 7 years, her work centers on implementing sustainable, resilient, and equitable

alternatives to landfill disposal for the benefit of all who live and work in Nashville.

Jenn’s early career focused on preserving historic buildings, giving her a unique

perspective to build strategies around reducing construction and demolition waste. She

also has over 10 years of experience in community education and outreach across

various sectors that she brings to her work to educate Nashvillians. Due to her

education and outreach initiatives, contamination in curbside recycling has dropped

from 46% to 21%, the amount of compostable material collected at public drop-offs has

doubled, stakeholders in the construction industry have supported new policy to require

recycling, and she has successfully launched a residential curbside food scraps

collection program.

Abby Kimmel works on community outreach and education for the Nashville

Department of Waste Services. She connects residents to valuable resources and

teaches Nashvillians how to recycle right, as well as other ways to divert waste from

landfills. Abby holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of

North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to joining the Nashville Department of Waste

Services team, Abby served as a Lead for North Carolina Fellow, working to expand

sustainability initiatives in rural, distressed communities in Eastern North Carolina
